DVD: The Dark Knight Rises

Here’s Anne Hathaway as Selina the cat-burglar. She is channeling her inner Audrey Hepburn.

Here’s Anne portraying Selina as her alter ego Catwoman. I don’t get it either. Why doesn’t Selina just be one or the other and cut out the additional folderol? She could cut way down on dressing time and double her closet space I’ll wager. The movie does’t explain. Since I don’t spend every waking hour following this 74-year-old comic book I can’t tell you either. By the way, she’s borrowing Batman’s extremely large motorcycle as he is her friend or enemy or frenemy or whatever.

Christian Bale plays Bruce Wayne/Batman- another huge waste of time messing with costumes and such but at least he can afford a butler to take care of the alter-ego details.

Batman’s butler is played here by veteran actor Michael Caine. He’s done better-and worse….

Everyone of the above is fighting Bane, played by Tom Hardy. Bane wants to blow up Gotham City, portrayed here rather winsomely by New York City. Dear Tom, do you remember David Prowse? Neither do I. He portrayed Darth Vader in the original Star Wars movie. Lose the mask Tom if you catch my meaning.
Have I mentioned this movie also stars Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard and Mathew Modine? They’re the “second tier” stars of this movie. Bottom line you could cast two or three movies from this cast. And still, it’s just a silly comic book trying to serious and meaningful- for the more philosophical eight year olds in the audience.

  1. A just assessment, but don’t go trying to ingratiate yourself with this “more philosophical”jazz. (I yam what I yam—if you catch my drift!)

We don’t know that Selina has already not one (or more) to buttle for her, do we? (and, Silly, the way a Real [Cat]Woman doubles her closet space is by doubling her closets!!!)
